Great times at Meadowbank at our 'Read, Right & Run' half-marathon timed mile.
Years 5, 6 and 7 headed to Meadowbank Sports Arena to complete their half-marathon timed mile. All children have been training hard for this event since we started our 'Read, Write and Run a Marathon' initiative in October. The aim was to see how long it took them to run or to walk/run a mile. A mile is equal to 4 laps of the track - quite a distance for young legs!!
All runners tried their very best and pushed themselves to complete the 4 laps. Some amazing times were recorded in all classes. The fastest mile in the school was ran by Joseph Keenan in Year 7 who completed it in 6.57 minutes. The fastest girl was Ailís McElroy in year 5 who ran her mile in 7.49 minutes. Many other boys and girls also ran very impressive times and every child's running fitness is really improving as a result of the initiative.
The children will return to Meadowbank at the start of June to run their marathon mile. That will be the 26th mile they will have ran this year at school!!! They will continue training by running a mile every week in the hope of improving and getting a personal best time recorded for their marathon mile. Some children have also started going to the Junior Parkrun in Magherafelt on Sunday mornings. This will kalso really help improve their marathon mile time.
Watch out everyone the children of New Row are getting fitter, faster, stronger and healthier!!
Happy running everyone!!😀👍💪🏃♀️🏃
