Read, Right & Run a Marathon Finale
Today was a very special day for all year 5, 6 & 7 children as they reached the end of New Row's Read, Right & Run a Marathon programme.
A marathon is 26.2 miles long and at the end of the programme each child has read at least 26 books, completed 26 good deeds (rights) and ran 26 miles, completing 1 mile every week since the programme started way back in October. The final marathon mile was ran and timed at Meadowbank Sports Arena and the majority of children obtained a PB (personal best), some beating their half marathon mile time by as much as 4 minutes!!
The programme's finale was a special outdoor celebration in the glorious sunshine. All children were presented with their special finisher t-shirts. They ran the final 0.2 mile together to complete their marathon. Each class then reflected on what they have enjoyed most about the Read, Right & Run a Marathon activities. Some were proud of their fast run times. Some were proud of how much their running has improved. Others spoke about some of the wonderful acts of kindness they carried out, helping their families and friends in a variety of lovely ways. And some children recommended some of their favourite reads to everyone.
Completing the programme this year has been a wonderful accomplishment for each and every child involved. They have developed further their reading ability, enhanced their sense of community spirit and improved their running fitness, benefitting their learning, health and well-being in many ways. A huge well done to everyone!!!
